Sulphur Springs, Texas is a community of approximately 16,000 located in Northeast Texas, on Interstate 30, halfway between Dallas and Texarkana. Hopkins County (www.hopkinscountytx.org) operates under a County Judge and four precinct Commissioners. Sulphur Springs is the County Seat of government for the County. Other incorporated communities in the county include Cumby, Tira and Como. |

For water, sewage, and trash pickup within the city, call the city hall. Telephone service for Sulphur Springs is provided by the Verizon company. For residential telephone service, call 1-800-483-3000. Natural gas is provided by Oncor. For gas service, call 1-800-460-3030. Electrical deregulation has allowed Texans to choose from a wide variety of electrical services. For information on electrical servers, visit the Texas Public Utility Commission's website at www.powertochoose.com for more information or you may call 1-866-797-4839. Cable TV is available through Cox Communications, telephone (903)885-3757. There are seven school districts in Hopkins County, the largest being Sulphur Springs Independent School District (www.ssisd.net) with over 4,000 students. Other school districts within Hopkins County include Como-Pickton, Miller Grove, Cumby, North Hopkins, Sulphur Bluff and Saltillo. All Hopkins County school districts are rated as either exemplary or recognized by the Texas Education Agency rating system.
Employment opportunities with the over 50 major employers are made available to residents and future residents through four employment services and the Sulphur Springs Workforce Center. (see employment agencies in the membership directory)
There are over 115 churches in Hopkins County, representing almost every major denomination. The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram (903)885-8663, and KSST - 1230 AM, KSCH - 95.9 FM and KSST Channel 18 Television all serve to keep local citizens informed. There are several banking institutions to serve the needs of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County. Alliance Bank, City National Bank, Guaranty Bond Bank, Community Bank, First Convenience Bank and The Land Bank of Sulphur Springs, along with City National Bank in Como, Texas provide dependable banking services to the area.
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, a 100 bed Medical complex affiliated with Baylor Health Care System of Dallas provides healthcare services to area residents including a talented medical staff of over 40 physicians, including anesthesiology, emergency room physicians, family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, and radiology. Memorial Hospital boasts a 24 hour emergency center, Level 111 Trauma Center, C.A.R.E. Unit, Inpatient Acute Rehab, EMS/Five Mobile Intensive Care Units, Medical/Surgical Services, Team Diabetes Program, Hospice, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Open MRI services, CAT scan, Mammography, Ultrasound, Bone Density Screening, Laboratory Services and Outpatient Clinic with Specialists in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Urology and Pulmonology.

Sulphur Springs was named one of the top five rural communities in Texas by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs and Governor Rick Perry in 2003. The community was selected from a list of 21 nominees based upon the "Determination, Innovation and Know-how our community has applied toward activities such as tourism, partnering, community development, education and economic development."

Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport was named "Airport of the Year" by the Texas Department of Transportation for the year 2003 citing improvements including a new terminal building with a large, private meeting space provided by local industry, additional ramp space, addition of AWAS automated weather system construction of private and rental hangar spaces and upgrading of the runways.

There are over 3,000 acres of public parks in the city. The newest addition, Coleman Park, a 200+ acre family playground which includes walking/jogging trails, playground areas, fishing, tennis and a sports complex including six baseball and six soccer fields, and a unique "imagination" mountain, complete with 8 ft. waterfall and wading pool serve the citizens of Sulphur Springs and surrounding area. The 1 acre "Kids Kingdom" castle playground located in Buford Park, a municipal swimming pool and playground, along with fourteen lighted tennis courts, eighteen lighted baseball fields, one athletic club, bowling alley, six-screen state-of-the-art movie theater, a senior citizens center, four fishing lakes, a hunting reserve, and a public 18-hole golf course located at the Sulphur Springs Country Club round out the array of activities available to citizens and visitors alike.

The Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, which boasts a 1500 seat air-conditioned auditorium, with complete stage facilities, a 2500 seat rodeo arena/coliseum and an 8500 square ft. exhibit hall provides meeting space to handle almost any venue, from family reunions to major music stars such as the Oak Ridge Boys, Reba McIntire, Clint Black, and Garth Brooks, just to name a few.
